Deborah Emmons-Andarawis

Executive Director & Curator

Deborah Emmons-Andarawis received her BA from Barnard College, Columbia University, and continued her studies at the University at Albany, receiving a master’s in Public History in 2009. Deborah has been at Historic Cherry Hill since 2008, first serving as Curator, then as Director since 2017. Over her tenure, Deborah has overseen a major restoration project, collaborated on numerous interpretive programs, launched interpretive planning, and secured and administered numerous grants.

Anna Doren

Director of Education

Anna Doren attended Hartwick College and earned a BA in Anthropology and History. Anna received a MSSE in Adolescent Education in Social Studies from the College of Saint Rose. She has worked as a curatorial assistant, educator, and tour guide at a variety of historic sites over the past 10 years. Anna is passionate about working with the public to make history accessible; she hopes to inspire learners of all ages to explore and connect with the many stories at Historic Cherry Hill.

Carol Durant

Carol Durant

Marketing & Community Engagement Associate

Carol is a Black American author, poet, playwright and recording artist. She is the 2024 Reader’s Choice Award winning author in Chronogram Magazine. Her latest book is Cold Pressed and Just Brewed Poetry. Carol is the founder and co-host of Stage & Stanza, a Conversation with Creatives at Russell Sage College. She is also Managing Director and Board Member of the theater group, All Abilities Productions of Upstate New York in Queensbury, NY. Her song ” Mystified” produced by GruvGate Records is streaming on all major platforms. Carol is excited to be bringing all of her talents to bear in expanding audiences and opportunities at Historic Cherry Hill.

Hannah Tompkins

Education Assistant

Hannah is a graduate student at UAlbany studying Public History. With a background in Art History and Material Culture, she will be as assest to the tour guiding and programming at HCH. She grew up around the Philadelphia area and moved to Troy 3 years ago to pursue her Master’s. She has experience with classroom teaching and most recently worked at the Seward House Museum, producing a specialized tour on the social history of the architecture.
